Scottish Highlands, Scotland: Inverness and Loch Ness

From Edinburgh, we (by we I really mean the bride) drove up to Inverness, a town perfect as a base to the northern regions of the Scottish Highlands including the Loch Ness. Loch really means Lake, and there are plenty of Lochs in Scotland, with Lake Ness being the most famous of them all. No, we weren't lucky enough to spot the monster during our visit.

The highlands are super scenic on the drive, and you can stop at any time for photo ops, or to stalk some sheep, and highland cows! All without having to climb or hike for days on end! This is Nepal for lazy folks.

Inverness Town itself isn't very exciting, someone did find Primark a steal. I was more into souvenirs and such.

The most photo-worthy part of town is the Inverness Castle. Small but complete and well-maintained, today it houses the Inverness Sheriff Court and the interior is not open to public.

The next day, we drove along the length of Loch Ness to Fort William, with time to stop by the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition*, Urquhart Castle*, and a random farm (for highland cows - the highlight!).

*We didn't pay to enter either attraction. #bada**

Urquhart Castle - Now you know what I mean when I say that Inverness Castle is complete. I do love its unrestored rustic charm, and the peeking through the bushes part.

Yes bumble bees are indeed yellow and black striped - but I never knew that they are also furry! (and quite huge)

Why travel in trios - one to drive, one to change CDs, and one to keep a lookout for highland cows (kidding). We got some travel brochures from Edinburgh for "inspiration" and they had a photo of a highland cow. I almost gave up on seeing one on this trip, until the non-bride spotted a farm, with said cow on the perimeter of the fence no less! On the side of the car park! What luck! #everythingisfurryinScotland

It really reminds me of the Himalayan yak. I didn't see an actual one in Nepal but I do have a yak-wool scarf.

We spent the night in Inverness at the Beaufort Hotel. Dodgy photo of the room, but the accommodation is quite fancy for me.
