The dream-like fantasy experience goes beyond the characters at any Disneyland (or Sea). The deco at Tokyo Disneysea is equally amazing and takes you, literally, to places.
Torn between Disneyland and Disneysea, I chose the latter, because I had been to Disneyland before (a long time back) and I suppose they are much the same the world over, furthermore, Disneysea IS after all, unique to Tokyo and as my colleague put it, 'more grown-up'.
But of course, if you have more time, you should probably visit both!

To get to Disneysea from JR Maihama Station, you can choose to take the Disney Resort Line (a fancy name for a tram) or Cruiser (a shuttle bus) or take a leisurely stroll (about 20 minutes).
Disneysea is organized into several themes and you are first greeted with European Architecture, with Hotel Miracosta, and the Mediterranean Harbour:

Access: JR Maihama Station (Walk or use the Disney Resort Line to get around the area) / Direct bus from Narita/Haneda Airports/other destinations
NB: Like in every train station in Japan, lockers are available in bus stations or Information Centres around attractions like Disneysea, for the storage of luggage (price varies from ¥300-¥600 depending on size and location). These lockers are life- and time-savers!
